We don’t just teach birth. We train teams.
Helping parents prepare for labor, unexpected decisions, and postpartum—together.
That's why at Our BirthRoom® we teach parents how to understand birth, navigate decisions, and support one another when it matters most.
Because confidence doesn't come from knowing exactly what's going to happen.
It comes from being prepared for whatever comes next.
Birth Is Unpredictable. Preparation Doesn't Have To Be.
That Feeling You’re Feeling? We’ve Been There.
I remember being 32 weeks pregnant with our first baby.
I was excited.
Grateful.
And honestly?
A little overwhelmed.
I had just toured the hospital, and instead of feeling reassured, I left with more questions than answers.
Am I making the right choices?
What happens if labor doesn't go as planned?
Will my partner know how to help?
How do we make decisions when things get intense?
As a Physician Assistant, I had spent years caring for patients.
I understood medicine.
I understood healthcare.
But now birth wasn't something I was seeing from the outside.
It was personal.
And as a Black mother, I couldn't ignore the stories I had heard—or the realities I had seen—about families feeling dismissed, pressured, or unprepared during one of the most important moments of their lives.
So Stephen and I started preparing differently.
Not just by gathering information.
By practicing.
By talking through scenarios.
By learning how to work as a team.
By preparing for the unexpected.
Because one thing became clear:
Birth is unpredictable.
Preparation doesn't have to be.
Four Births. Four Very Different Stories.
Since then, we've welcomed four children.
And each birth taught us something new.
We've experienced long labor.
Fast labor.
Labor that stalled.
Unexpected twists.
Moments that didn't go according to plan.
But through every birth, preparation gave us something invaluable:
Confidence.
Not because we knew exactly what would happen.
But because we felt prepared to navigate whatever came next.
That's the same preparation we now teach the families we serve.
Preparation changes everything.
Why we created Our BirthRoom®
After years of working in healthcare and teaching childbirth education, we noticed the same pattern over and over again.
Parents were overwhelmed by information.
Partners wanted to help but didn't know how.
Families were trying to make important decisions without feeling fully prepared.
We knew there had to be a better way.
So we created Our BirthRoom®.
A place where parents could learn not only what happens during birth—but how to move through it with confidence, support, and clarity.
What We Believe
These guiding truths shape everything we teach, create, and stand for:
Birth is unpredictable.
Preparation doesn't have to be.
Birth is a team sport.
We prepare support people alongside birthing parents because no one should carry birth alone.
Information alone isn't enough.
Confidence comes from knowing how to apply what you've learned when it matters most.
Every parent deserves a voice.
You don't need a medical degree to ask questions, understand your options, and participate in decisions.
Faith and evidence belong together.
We believe families deserve both compassionate support and evidence-based education.

Stephen Yip, DO
CHILDBIRTH EDUCATOR + PARTNER TRAINER + DAD OF FOUR
Stephen is a Family Medicine Physician, husband, and hands-on birth partner of four.
One of the things we learned through our own births is that most partners want to help—they simply aren't taught how.
That's why Stephen trains support people to show up with confidence, practical skills, and steady support when it matters most.
We’ve been where you are—and we’ll walk this with you.
More Prepared Parents. More Supported Partners. Better Birth Experiences.
That's the mission.
And whether you're planning a hospital birth, birth center birth, home birth, medicated birth, or unmedicated birth, we believe every family deserves to approach birth feeling informed, supported, and prepared.
We'd be honored to be part of your journey.
