I remember being 32 weeks pregnant—excited, but uneasy.
I had just toured the hospital… and instead of feeling reassured, I felt overwhelmed.
Questions started racing:
Am I making the right choices?
What if I get pressured into something I don’t want?
Am I even strong enough for this?
As a Physician Assistant, I had seen birth from the clinical side.
But now it was personal.
And as a Black mother, I couldn’t ignore the reality—
the disparities, the risks, the stories I had seen and heard.
So we started asking different questions.
We started preparing differently.
That decision changed everything.
It led us to four natural births…
and a calling to help other families experience the same confidence and clarity.
