10 Steps to a Calm and Confident Birth—Together

Preparing for birth doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. In this guide, we share the 10-step framework that helps couples approach labor with calm, confidence, and teamwork.

Birth Confidence Doesn’t Happen by Accident

Most first-time parents walk into birth hoping everything goes well.

They pack the hospital bag.
Take the hospital tour.
Maybe skim a few articles online.

And then they wait to see what happens.

But when labor begins, many couples quickly realize something:

No one ever really taught them how birth actually works.

They’ve heard stories about pain, emergencies, and complications—but very little about how to work with labor, support each other, or navigate decisions confidently in the moment.

That’s why so many parents approach birth feeling more nervous than prepared.

And honestly, it’s not their fault.

Many couples are operating under a handful of assumptions that don’t set them up for success during labor.

Things like:

• “Your body will just know what to do.”
• “Your doctor will make the best decisions for you.”
• “There’s nothing your partner can really do during labor.”
• “Birth plans don’t really matter.”

These assumptions can leave parents feeling confused, reactive, and powerless instead of calm and confident.

That’s exactly why I created my free class:

10 Steps to a Calm and Confident Birth—Together

Inside, we break down six common myths that keep couples stuck in fear, and then walk step-by-step through the framework we use to help families prepare for birth with clarity, teamwork, and confidence.

Because birth isn’t something you have to just “get through.”

With the right preparation, it’s something you and your partner can approach together—with calm, confidence, and support.

We call it the 10 Steps to a Calm and Confident Birth—and today I’m giving you a peek inside the system.

The Framework That Helps Couples Prepare for Birth Together

Inside the class, we walk couples through a simple system that helps them prepare for the moments that matter most during birth.

The framework happens in two phases:

Phase 1: BRAVE Foundations

During pregnancy, couples prepare by building the foundation for a smoother labor experience.

This includes things like:

• understanding nutrition and pregnancy wellness
• learning how to advocate for your birth preferences
• choosing providers and support teams that align with your goals
• preparing your body for the work of labor

These steps help couples walk into labor feeling informed and supported instead of uncertain.

Phase 2: LABOR Together

When labor begins, the focus shifts to teamwork.

Couples learn:

• how labor actually unfolds
• how partners can provide hands-on support
• how to adapt confidently if birth takes an unexpected turn

This is where partners step into the role we call the Daddy Doula—providing calm, confident support when it matters most.

Below are 2 of the 10 steps we walk through in our free class. If you like what you see, you can save your seat at the end and get the full framework + guide to enhance your prep. 💛

Let’s go.

1. Prepare Your Body (Not Just When Labor Starts)

Most people wait until labor to start moving intentionally. But truth is, your movement now is already shaping how things unfold later.

Intentional, gentle movement during pregnancy can:

  • Help baby settle into the best position

  • Relieve pelvic pain and backaches

  • Reduce the risk of complications

  • Support smoother labor progress

Inside our course, we show you how to open the pelvis in a way that matches each stage of labor—so your body is prepped and your baby has space to move down and out.

Quick tip: Try sitting criss-cross apple sauce on the floor or spending time on a birth ball each day to help keep your hips open and flexible. Add a little sway on the birth ball while you’re at it. 😉

2. Enlist a Provider Who Honors Your Birth Goals

Your provider isn’t just someone with credentials—they’re someone you’re trusting to walk with you through one of life’s most sacred moments.

This step is all about:

  • Knowing the difference between red flags and growth opportunities

  • Understanding your options (OB? Midwife? Doula? Hospital? Birth center?)

  • Feeling safe and seen with the people supporting you

And yes—you’re absolutely allowed to switch providers if you need to. (It’s not “too late.”)

If you’re still exploring your options, this guide on choosing the right birth attendant can help you think through what type of support fits your goals.
Check out this guide on how to choose the right birth attendant for you to get clarity before your next appointment.

Good question to ask in your next visit:
“How do you typically support unmedicated birth?”
If the answer sounds vague or dismissive, it might be time to explore your options.
